Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion Center
United Therapeutics Corporation (UT) sought to design, develop, and deploy the second of a multi-site service Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) Center in the United States. Time to transplant is critical for the delivery of the rehabilitated lungs making Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Florida a prime location and partner. Supporting Mayo Clinic’s medical breakthrough ecosystem was key to the collaboration. A 75,000 gsf, three story, Net Zero facility was designed with supporting 1.6 MW photovoltaic array carport. The Discovery & Innovation building was purposefully designed to be expandable up to eight stories. The building houses a lung perfusion facility, the Mayo Clinic Innovation Exchange business incubator, and shell space for cGMP growth. The team evaluated multiple sites on Mayo’s campus for best fit and was constructed in 22 months. Net Zero features included a solar array, electric car charging stations, geothermal wells, electrochromic glass, energy recovery, and intelligent building controls. In addition to traditional Owner’s Representation Services, the procurement of all medical and laboratory equipment, and ongoing facility management services was also provided.
